I see the BBC are showing a new documentary about the Baroness. Due to be aired on the 17th of April on BBC 4 (tbc).

"Helen Mirren is the voice of the Jazz Baroness.

Sonny Rollins, TS Monk Junior, The Duchess of Devonshire, Quincy Jones, Lord Rothschild, Roy Haynes, Chico Hamilton and many other luminaries appear as themselves.

"Mesmerising" Stephen Frears

Fabulous brilliant film; I loved it ." Hanif Kureishi

"The film's utterly compelling in its examination of a profoundly unconventional love story, and it gains hugely from the interplay with the director's own journey of discovery with her great aunt. It's the most beguiling music film since Eastwood's Straight No Chaser."
Peter Florence, Director Hay Festival of Literature and Ideas.

Yes this was first of all a rare excursion into any jazz topic by the BBc and they lead the way onjazz in the UK. As we all know jazz is dead and rock rules the world. Anyway the programme proved to be a fascinating insight into a strange, or should I say, unusual relationship but as usual too much on the relationship and not enougfh on the music.
